Cape Diving

On this seven day expedition, you will be taken to the two prime locations for seeing Great White Sharks in the Western Cape: Seal Island in False Bay and Dyer Island on the Whale Coast. The expedition also offers many of Cape Town's favourite attractions including Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Robben Island and Cape Point Nature Reserve...

Day 1

You will be met upon arrival at Cape Town International Airport by a GoSharkDiving representative, who will hand over all documentation, and assist with a transfer to your hotel for check in. This afternoon your guide will transfer to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens where you will enjoy a scrumptious lunch with the awesome backdrop of Table Mountain. (Lunch dependant on time of arrival flight) After lunch you will return to your hotel for some time at leisure before departing for dinner this evening.

Day 2

You will be collected from your hotel in the morning for a brief Cape Town city tour, which may include a visit up Table Mountain (weather dependant).

This tour incorporates sights such as the Houses of Parliament, the Castle, the South African Museum and other major historical monuments. Visit the bustling Greenmarket Square flea market, with its many bargains and wares! Visit the picturesque Malay Quarter and smell the curry aromas that fill the air.

The morning’s tour will end at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, where you will enjoy some time at leisure for shopping or a leisurely lunch overlooking the harbour (for own account).

In the afternoon, you may wish to include a dive with ragged tooth sharks, turtles and giant short-tail rays in the predator exhibit of the Two Oceans Aquarium at the Waterfront.

If time permits you will be able to partake in cultural tour of Robben Island. Formerly a political prison and a leper colony before that, this historic landmark was recently established as a museum and national monument. Experience the conditions of incarceration, view Nelson Mandela’s maximum-security prison cell (Cell 5) and see the lime quarries, where hard labour was served in one, abd in the other prisoners discussed strategy, freedom and the future. This well-preserved landmark is a monument to the triumph of freedom, dignity and determination over humiliation and oppression. On Robben Island, visitors’ movements are restricted by regulation to the bus and the group’s guide. Tours of the island are conducted in large buses.

On return to the V & A Waterfront you will be escorted back to your guesthouse for the evening at leisure.

Day 3

After breakfast, you will be collected for your first full day Great White shark viewing activity. You will board the boat in Simon’s Town, which will make its way to Seal Island, situated just off the False Bay Coast.

The expedition usually begins by chasing of the seals to view the natural predations and breechings of the Great White sharks. The Skipper will begin ‘”chumming” and you will have the opportunity to view from the deck or to participate in a cage dive as the sharks make their appearance.

All equipment will be supplied, and a light lunch as well as snacks and drinks will be served on the boat.

You will be transferred back to your guesthouse later in the afternoon for the remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 4

You will be collected from your hotel for your full day Cape Peninsula tour this morning, which will include a visit to the Cape Point Nature Reserve as well a the local penguin colony at Boulders Beach in Simon’s Town. Lunch will be at one of the many exquisite restaurants en-route.

The Cape of Good Hope is a scenic wonder, where soft white sandy beaches alternate with rugged stretches of rock and breathtaking cliffs. The cliffs at Cape Point are among the highest coastal cliffs in the world. The mingling of the icy Atlantic Ocean with the warmer Indian Ocean results in a unique coastal environment and one of the most productive marine zones worldwide.

You will return to your hotel later in the afternoon for the evening at leisure.

Day 5

You will check out from the hotel early in the morning, and will be transferred through the Cape Winelands, en route to Hermanus. You will visit a few of the award-winning wine estates of the Cape Winelands, and take a cellar tour to sample a few of the magnificent wines.

The Winelands Region is the best that the Cape has to offer; gently tossed in a naturally beautiful landscape, seasoned with a rich cultural heritage and served with a magnificent backdrop of majestic mountains and a side-platter of hospitality. And naturally, one would not expect any but the very best of wines to accompany such an experience.

The coastal resort of Hermanus offers spectacular land-based whale watching. About 60 to 100 Southern Right Whales visit the bay from July until December every year. Visitors are often treated to close up displays as these creatures often come to within 10 meters of the coast. The cliff tops in Hermanus offer the tourist great views and the ability to watch the whales close up. Dinner will be served at one of the local restaurants this evening.

There is no limit on the amount of time you can spend in the shark-viewing cage. All equipment will be supplied, and a light lunch as well as snacks and drinks will be served on the boat.
